I didn't come up with this, and thank you to the few smart folks who made this suggestion, but it took me weeks to get this program installed on my machine, the workaround was hard to find and not on this site, and wanted to save others the headaches and time. The problem with DNS 13 Home is that it must, repeat MUST, be installed using Administrative privileges or else it scrams and interrupts the installer.
Which Windows programs can cause Dragon NaturallySpeaking to stop working (until you restart it)? Update Cancel. Never install any software that your are not absolutely sure you need. Does Dragon Naturally Speaking have the ability to make a meeting abstract? Note: I used iTunes 9.0.2 with an iPhone 3GS and Dragon Naturally Speaking 10. Get Voice Memos Ready for Transcription. Before you can transcribe the Voice Memos you will have to sync them to your iTunes library and then convert them to a format recognized by Dragon Naturally Speaking.
I don't know exactly where their malfunction occurred, but somewhere in their Java they wrote some specific code making this mandatory. The problem with this is that, should you only have one account on your computer, and by default that account is the Administrator, the installer does not recognize the admin privileges, even if you open the files in Explorer and right click on the.exe and choose to run it as the Administrator. The workaround is to create a new user on your machine temporarily. The account I created was Local only as a security measure. It shouldn't matter as you won't need it for long. Once the new account is created (as a regular, run-of-the-mill user, mind you) log into your machine under that user and THEN right click the installer and choose to run as the Administrator. At that point your normal account will show up in the dialog box and you can enter that account's password to make the whole thing run.
Takes a while, and is a real hassle, but it works. Once DNS 13 is installed, you may then switch users back to your default and delete the temporary account. Other suggestions I've seen online, especially on Nuance forums, are complete trash. They start by blaming the operating system, telling you that it's Windows' fault, or you aren't running the latest version of Java when you know you are, or telling you to turn off your antivirus. IMHO, any developer who doesn't start a glitch ticket by assuming it is their own program's fault is lazy.
Nuance's site says nothing more than they are aware of the problem and will let us know. Yeah, that was posted last October. Good work, guys. That's why I'm posting this here and not there.
I shouldn't have to tell them their own problems and I'm pretty chapped at a company that ships a defective product then tries to charge for tech support. Dragon has a long reputation with speech recognition, and they are destroying it with these shenanigans. This program was a Christmas gift and I only got it working two days ago. If I had bought for myself, I would have already demanded a refund. And if at any point in the future that Mickey Mouse operation at Nuance has the gall to ask me for money, my bark of laughter might just be louder than Krakatoa. In the meantime, I hope this helps you all out there also suffering with their poor product support.
